With Legend of Zelda finally making it's way to the Wii, fans are already suggesting what they would like to see in the latest installment. Go to the source for three things that zeldauniverse.net would like to see removed from the Zelda formula in Zelda Wii.

[The Legend of Zelda Wii Forum]

As Zelda Wii approaches, we have been hearing that the game will make some big changes to the Zelda experience. Director Eiji Aonuma seems intent on making Zelda Wii every bit as revered as the game every other Zelda is measured against, Ocarina of Time, by introducing changes “as big as OoT’s conversion to 3D”.

What exactly will those changes be, though? There are so many elements of the Zelda games that have been repeated through the series – some are vital, like the usage of Link, but there are many other clichés that can be removed without hurting the Zelda series. Here are three of them.

Not so much remove but rather alter.

Majora's Mask seems to fit in with these requirements perfectly. Would be nice to see the team go back to that and use MM as the base.

I think number 2 is really the only thing that I would cut altogther. Surely a huge group of people such as Nintendo can come up with weapons that don't have just one use.

I don't particular agree with number one, though I would like them to be a bit more strategic rather than "Hit enemy's weakspot 5 times".

I don't see number 3 as being a problem at all, its like complaining that Bowser or Satan is overused

Though I wouldn't mind if you had an extra villian, bring back Dark/Shadow Link (from OoT) perhaps? That guy pwned.

The storylines of non-RPG Mario games have always been something of a joke though, as opposed to the Legend of Zelda series that at least pretended to take its own story seriously. This makes the recycling of the same antagonist more important.

The Spinning top thing-Could have been used in dungeons or in areas Epona couldn't traverse, or as a battle asset where you strafe and take down enemies faster while riding it
The Statue Controller Rod-Could have used it to control statue/inanimate objects like Darknuts or maybe trees("ENTS!")
Fishing Rod-Could be used to fish out enemies and certain bosses Moby Dick Style

Nintendo just gets lazy. They push a game out their door unprepared. They could have found hundreds of different post-dungeon uses for the many weapons and tools, but they didn't,lazy bastards.

Plus, I want the option to continue playing after I beat the game. Majora's Mask heavily implied that Link could return to Termina anytime he wanted yet we could go no further then the credits.

I want the currency in Zelda to have more meaning. Learning new fighting techniques was cool in Twilight Princess, but you had to find them, hey, how about paying for them instead? Seriously I feel like getting ruppees in the games are almost pointless considering you find most of the stuff in shops for free by cutting grass, and who cares about potions when you got faries that bring you back to life? Seriously, I want more of a reason to pick these things up, if they do that, Zelda would be more enjoyable in my eyes.

If you start making the currency more important though, then the whole thing becomes a grinding hunt for money.

I am not saying to make it a grind, but come on, the currency seems nigh pointless, at least give it some more reasons for it to exist.

No it wouldn't. It's all about balance and when the Zelda series first started it had that. However, as the series has progressed this has gotten worse as money became less important. Suddenly getting 200 rupees as a reward for finding a secret cave or completing a sidequest was no longer important when a) you already pick up a crapload of them just travelling between destinations and b) there isn't all that much interesting and unique to buy anyway.

As correctly pointed out, the existing currency system may as well not exist for all it contributes to the series at this point. Either do it properly or don't bother.

Exactly, a balance needs to be made in order for the currency system to work without being pointless or a grind. Right now that balance doesn't exist because of how little value the currency system is to the gamer.

That sounds balanced to me. If you can find them easier, but there's less interesting things to buy, then things are still even.

Who cares anyway? Since when was the Legend of Zelda about money? Making money less important was an improvement in my opinion.

Um, how in the world is that balanced? Both elements are on the same side of the scales.

There are plenty of reasons to care. What do you do for at least half the time you spend with most Zelda titles? Fighting. Now, fighting needs to have meaning, otherwise we would avoid enemies all the time, and that's no fun. So a currency system is added, that way fighting has meaning, the more meaning the combat has, the more fun the game becomes because there are more goals to accomplish. Get money, buy stuff to make Link stronger, or to help progress in the game, or what have you. This is what makes games like Devil May Cry or God of War so succesful, or even most rpgs, the fighting in the games have meaning because you have something to gain from defeating enemies.

Also, your perception of "balanced" is very different from mine. Having very little interesting things to buy, compared to many interesting things to find, is not balanced imo. If there was a generally equal amount of interesting things to find, AND buy, without one taking precedence over the other, is balanced.

The dungeon item thing can be expressed in the beggining, but then what do you see needed to be used for the item if not for venturing into the dungeon and defeating the boss?
