This is an article that delves into the cost of special edition video games, and whether or not they are actually worth the price of admission (sometimes very high) or a total over shot and just another way to get money to the publishers.

There have always been editions of games released that are a bit rarer than others, which easily sets them apart from the others on the shelf at Gamestop or the webpages at Amazon, but what is so great about these special editions, setting them apart from the regular editions and why should we as gamers invest our hard earned money in them? In the past, there have been definitive special editions that have equated to must-haves. However, the interesting thing about the limited run of a certain game edition is that there is no reason or rhyme necessarily to why it gets purchased.

Honestly it really depends. Atlus makes almost all of their new releases as a special edition with no extra cost (except demon's souls, but that comes with a strategy guide AND an artbook, which I believe is worth it) such as Persona 3, which was $50 and came with an artbook and soundtrack.

Depends on the game. Most of them are rip-offs, but some of them are actually worth it.

Sometimes. The Halo 3 Legendary Edition? Yeah, overall. But the helmet is cool. GOWIII Ultimate Edition? *bleep* no! This thing is jam-packed with exclusive vids, extra skins, additional levels, 4 soundtracks, and one kick-ass looking box.

Other SE like DMC4, PoP, and Batman: AA could go either way depending on how much you're into the game/series. Vids and extra skins can only go so far.

I think too many companies are bringing out special editions all at the same time I mean, SE's should be a one off thing.
