GameZone discusses why dragons are so popular in gaming with taking a look at Double Dragon, Dragon Age, Panzer Dragoon, Lair and many more. It's a surprise what they find out after playing all the titles from their play time.

"Small wonder then, that such a popular creature should make regular appearances in modern video games. Who can forget the first time they successfully executed Liu Kang’s intricate finishing move, transforming an agile martial artist into a voracious man-eater chomping down a dazed opponent in Mortal Kombat? How hard did you work to master the “dragon punch,” during your first experience as a Street Fighter? Even the literary power of the dragon is difficult to resist. Be honest, would you have wasted so many quarters on “Double Dragon” if it had been titled “Two Muscular Dudes Who Enjoy Picking Fights?” Of course not."

Which is what I initially thought Lair was gonna be about...I was very upset when I found it wasn't.

needs to have a game sorta like Lair, but with multiple kinds of dragons like in D&D, where they dont all breath fire. some breath ice or wind or are of other elemental alignments.

Why are Dragons in games so UNPLAYABLE?

LAIR was awesome, and Panzer Dragoon and the upcoming Ego Draconis II BECAUSE it puts you behind the wings and fire of a FREAKIN' DRAGON.

Thats why I loved the lesser known games Dragon's Rage and Drakengard 1 and 2 by Square Enix, it let you BE a dragon, we need more games like this. just imagine the ultimate GTA style game, where you play as a Dragon that you customize and create(a land, water, or air dragon, anyone?), free roam a massive medieval era world, terrorize castles and towns, kidnaps maidens, and horde Treasure inside your Cave/Home Base.

    That would be BAD.FREAKIN'.ASS.

yeah and grow from a baby all the way to a mighty Wyrm. you would have to fight a whole huge human army single handedly, other dragons and maybe even other mythological creatures. how about a mid air battle against a group of 50 gryphons or something?

"how about a mid air battle against a group of 50 gryphons or something?"

There was a PS2 game a long time ago that did just that, SAVAGE SKIES I think it was called, it let you play as a griffon,Rok,Eagle,Dragon, flying boar,Manta Ray, and dozens of other flying creatures and free roam a huge enviroment killing other flying beasts, there was even a level where you could fly inside of a HUGE flying monster and kill it from the inside out, and wipe out waves of Pegasuses and Griffons with fire and lightning as an Ice Dragon.

Badass game, it even let you LAND whenever you wanted, the multiplayer was badass too.

sounds good to me. bring that into the current gen, make the game a sandbox like GTA, but instead of different creatures you only can play as a dragon, just different kinds (fire, air, cold, water), with slightly different storylines. and you get to customize your dragon, picking different looking wings, claws, horns, etc and of course the colors.

That would be rather awesome to customize your own dragon and play it.. but maybe more like an inflight starfox.. that'd be badass

I'm guessing the same reason why Space Marines and Zombies are.
