For the past few years video game difficulty has become far easier. Maybe it’s to appeal to a broader audience, or maybe we just kick ass as gamers. Probably the first of the two, but it still warrants a deeper look.

By no means am I some sort of awesome gamer with ridiculous skills that make you want to cry at your inadequacies. As many years as I have played video games I would still consider my skills to be a little above average. For some reason the latest games I have been playing have had a very low difficulty level.

Well, considering there are many, many more games available nowadays as compared to 10-15 years ago, it stands to reason that there would seem to be a lack in difficulty. Also, this generation has grown up with video games, so we learn early on how to control characters and use our minds in certain situations.

I don't think the majority of games have gone down in difficulty, it's just that we've adapted, as a people, to a higher difficulty of gameplay.

It's times like these where I'm glad developers like FROM Software were bold enough to ramp up the difficulty.

Perfect picture for the article. Definitely represents every gamer ever. What an asshole.

I think it's mixed. Some games seem easy. While others I find require you spend all your waking time playing it, then dream about playing it, to master it well enough to get certain parts of the games.

This is why there ALWAYS needs to be difficulty levels in games. No excuses whatsoever. This way if the game is too easy, up it to the highest level. If it's so frustrating that you want to break everything in the house, then put it down a level or two.

I think though it's not to much as the games being easy, but like archangel said, we're getting better the more games we play. Common sense really.

Well, one thing is that you'll get better at video games when you're older, and what used to be challenging years ago is generally a walk in the park now.

Don't forget that some games were made ridiculously hard back then for the sake of being a frustrating near-impossible challenge, and the controls weren't as good back then either.

I still can't beat a bunch of the old games I own.
They were definitely harder back in the day...though I'd say alot of that had to do with controls, limited 'continues', small health bars, and other such outdated mechanics.
