Square Enix is a company that represents the best of the best when it comes to the RPG genre in the game industry. The problem is that Microsoft isn't the definitive console for this type of audience which has left a bad taste with many gamers after the exclusivity of games like Star Ocean, Infinite Undiscovery, and The Last Remant.

No shit. They failed on all accounts. It was an absolute waste for them.

Well, they are releasing SOIV on the PS3 now. The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery weren't all that great anyways and the opinions were generally mixed. And Square Enix seemed to know that and used the 360 to pilot test them. Apparently they didn't live up to their expectations. Would they have done any better if they were released exclusively on the PS3? No, I doubt it.

You forget that with more space on the disc, they may have utilised the disc better, maybe added more extras without the worry of having to create a 6-disc game or anything, because it'd all fit into one... so yes they may have done a fair bit better.

      Of course they would have.

Asia = people who love JRPG's more than the rest of the world.

Asia = has more love for Sony than Microsoft, so has more PS3's.

Square = Hey, they haz more PS3's in the place where they love our games, lets go with the other system! Haddyduh!

JRPG fans would have undoubtedly bought tons of copies but the games would have been just as crappy. Well the voice acting might have been better but that's about it.

I agree with you. Who cares what console its on. A good game is a good game no matter if it was on the 360 or PS3.

People are still going on Razz because it was a case of such a radical change in brand loyalty. SquareEnix who arguably wouldn't be as popular now if it wasn't for the Playstation ditched it for the Xbox 360 because it was more popular at the time. Unfortuantely for SquareEnix the popular console didn't equate to sales as the majority owners of Xbox 360 are into FPS, not RPG. Overall now the PS3 is pretty much evens with the Xbox 360, they essentially have the same sales give or take a million now SquareEnix are back on the PS3, though some how I feel for many it could be too little too late.

The 360 version of FFXIII isn't even out yet, and FFXIII hasn't yet been released in the West, so it's a little early to be talking about sales (or lack thereof) just yet.

And I wouldn't say they neccessarily 'ditched' the Playstation. They brought one FF game to the 360. Most others are on PS consoles. But then, Squeenix have never been overly loyal to the Playstation in the first place.

Perhaps he was talking about Square Enix games on the 360 that were released earlier on the 360

Oh yeah, I forgot about them

But I'd probably blame a lack of sales on the fact that most of those games were kinda....crap.

True, a few were. But I remember one of them being pretty well received amongst fans of the genre.... What was it... Lost Odyssee or something?

LO wasn't a Square game. It was a Mistwalker game (created by Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy, interestingly enough).

I still think Sakaguchi leaving the company is one of the main reasons FF games haven't felt the same in recent years. He seems to be what held the FF teams together... and the games themselves. Ever since he left, FF games have been 'hit or miss'.
It's like a ship losing it's captain - Sure, the crew can continue steering it, but they'll probably hit a few rocks or veer off course every now and then.

Ah! That's what I remember, I knew it was something Final Fantasy related, thanks for the clarification.

Sorry, what was the argument about again? I was too busy wiping away tears of laughter at the opening statement. Ahhh now I see the source all becomes clear, hiphopgamer fanboy squealing.

So, they're blaming the system for their shitty games?

I personally think that SE is still releasing pretty good games. However, people have build this nostalgic and almost perfect image of how their games used to be before. Sadly, there's nothing that can beat the sheer power of nostalgia. SE is still a good company. Perhaps not as good as before, but still better than a lot of crap out there. But that's not how we see them. Because they were so "awesome" before.

I personally think that xbox has a bigger rpg fanbase than ps3. Atleast from what I've seen over the past couple of years most people I know who play ps3 over xbox don't really play rpgs and prefer action or shooting games.

I completely disagree with the article except for the bit at the end. The games might aswell be multi-platform.

We're talking about Japan here, a country which literally eats up RPG's and Final Fantasy games by the millions. The 360 doesn't have a huge standing there, and thus sales for games on that system tend to by average at best.

I was hoping for some valid points but I couldn't get past all the "ya know what I'm sayin?" and his voice is kind of monotonous too, I only lasted for about a min and a half.

I'm sure if they released the 360 version first before the PS3 version it would have done just as well in sales and may have boosted 360 sales (as seen with Tales of Vesperia).

And people who constantly moan about this are also failures.

    Also so is Hiphopgamershow.

yeah cause Remnant and Undiscovery were such awesome games huh?!? they would have sold so many more copies on PS3....and then everyone that bought those copies would take them back to Gamestop the very next day.

apparently even FF13 wont be that great. seems like Versus is Squeenix's last hope for a good game this generation.

If SE is really so set on their games selling on the 360, then they should, oh I don't know, make some good games?

If it was such a failure then what was the point in porting FFXIII to the 360?

Exclusivity of small-time games is *bleep* all in comparison to a game like FF, thus a comparison in and of itself is retarded.

Final Fantasy is their big money maker. Of course they're going to go for everyone and anyone they can. That doesn't change the fact that the smaller, less important games would have sold better on PS3.
