This is a comparison of Netflix streaming on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 from gaming website PlanetXbox360.com - including a breakdown of how the service runs on each platform.

Having first revolutionized the way people rent movies, (to ‘Netflix’ something is becoming as much a verb as to ‘Google’ it) the company is now aiming to change the way we watch, well frankly everything. The ultimate goal of Netflix is to have the entirety of video broadcast media viewable online at any time. Yes, that goal is a long ways off and it seems that at least two thirds of Netflix’s instant viewing library is devoted to bad horror movies and straight-to-video releases.

I've heard they were planning a firmware update to do away with the disc, but it is annoying as is.

Lame but not really a big deal. It's like complaining you need to insert a disc to play games. =/

The point is that the 360 supports this without needing a disc, so why does the PS3 need it?

I've heard it was contract agreements with Microsoft, and doing it through blu-ray's online capability was their clever way to get around it

its totally different from needing a disc for games. its not something that should warrant the need for a disc.

Seems like you're just complaining for the sake of complaining. You need a disc to watch movies and play games, so really being bothered by this is just ridiculous. Sure you're streaming them, but the fact remains that if you weren't streaming you would be using a disc anyways so it's a non-issue.

That said, it's not at all "totally different".

Furthermore, as has already been stated it's got nothing to do with Sony, it's just a contract Netflix has with Microsoft that prevents using their method to connect.

how am i complaining? im just saying its dumb. i have a 360, so i use Netflix nice and easy with no disc. when the contract is up i guess you wont need the disc anymore which will make it better for PS3 ppl.

"just saying it's dumb" is generally called complaining, etc. etc.

Oh man, I've forgotten how hard it was to use Google! I mean, I have to click inside the little google thing on my toolbar, and type in "Netflix PS3 Disc" and then, oh man, then I have to press ENTER!

      Oh man, that was difficult.

As in AT THE STORES, smart ass. I've been to almost every store here in tampa, and nobody gives away the supposedly free disc for netflix.

Right... but something as wide and versatile as the internet couldn't possibly help give you a clue of how to figure the great mystery out, eh?

Yea, because you request the free disk from Netflix and they send it to you in the mail the next day. It isn't something you just go and pick up from your local retailer.

If you have netflix you know where to find it. I think you don't have netflix.

Drago, I'm a bit disappointed in this statement of yours

Sorry, VERY disappointed. Fringe research leads to biased reviews and ideas and opinions

Hooray for ignorance! Yep, it has to do with a contract with Microsoft, as soon as said contract is over it will be integrated into the PS3, they've already stated. They get around it by just using the internet connectivity on the PS3, the GUI for the Netflix streaming is the same on the PS3 as it is on the other Netflix Streaming enabled Blu-Ray players.

Do you have a 360? Buy for that.

Have a PS3? Buy for that.

Have both? THEN YOU CAN CLEARLY AFFORD TO BUY DVDS/BLU-RAYS, AND ALREADY DO, so it's a moot point.

    Illegal PC downloads ftw anyway.

Stop with these *bleep*ing piss contests.

Obviously the need for a disk to stream Netflix on the PS3 is a tad bit of a hindrance, but do you realize the argument the pro 360 users are making? They are saying the need for a disk is a problem and there shouldn't even be a disk. Well isn't that in theory the same argument that people are making for Final Fantasy being 6 disks or whatever it is on the 360? Where 360 owners are saying who cares about multiple disks, it's not a hassle to get up and put in a new disk. Now they are saying it is a pain to even put in one disk? It just makes no sense and sounds very hypocritical to me. It's one disk, it shouldn't be a hassle to anyone to get up and put one disk in.

Plus this argument is invalid in a couple of months anyway once Microsoft's contract with Netflix expires. When it does, then the PS3 will be able to stream movies without a disk just like everything else.

FF13 will be on multiple discs? i didnt know that. of course i havent been paying much attention to it anyway, but last i heard they were dumbing down the whole game on both systems so it could be on 1 DVD disc.

either way, were talking about a whole game, versus a stupid little 5 MB program that should just be installed on the XMB.

No, FFXIII on PS3 is on one Blu-Ray. FFXIII on 360 is on a few discs (not sure how many). But if one thing's for sure, it's that the game wasn't dumbed down to accommodate anything.

Oh, you defeated my argument so I'm going to grumble uninterestedly and walk away now.
