Final Fantasy XIII has recieved a handful of disappointingly negative reviews in the past few weeks, but many fans have shrugged them off as an attempt by little-known sites to gain hits through controversy.
But now some well-known sites are getting on the bandwagon, it looks like Final Fantasy XIII might not live up to many fans' expectations after all. With the game having been in development for so long, it would be a shame if it ended up disappointing long time fans of the series.

Go to the source for the full article.

Just yesterday, while reading Eurogamer’s hands on experience with the game, it dawned on me: Final Fantasy XIII might disappoint us all.

As noted, you’ve surely heard of the early reviews all giving FFXIII low scores, including the Hong Kong magazine that described it as being the “biggest swindle in gaming history”. See the thing is, we’re not familiar with these websites but Eurogamer on the other hand is one that’s universally respected. Simon Parkin, one of the website’s journalists, got his hands on an imported version of the game, detailing what to him was the “curious” decisions made by the Square-Enix leading to the game’s in my opinion, seemingly abysmal journey.

I don't like JRPG's, but even so ouch at the Eurogamer write up. The reviewer sounded like he was more or less struggling to say nice things about the game. And hours of play before the battle system opens up properly? Sounds irritating and pointless.

Oh, the games coming out on the 7th now is it? Must have missed that.

Still not fazed. Everyone threw shit at FFXII but it wasn't that bad (even if it includes the most unlikeable cast of characters ever to grace the small screen).

People should stop having so *bleep*ing high expectations, cause 99 times out of 100 you're gonna be disappointed.

High expectations come with hype, and when for the last 5 years this game has been paraded in our faces as the best JRPG ever to grace our screens with the best visuals, sound and everything. When the developers essentially fail on all fronts after taking ages to do so, it's going to dissapoint anyone regardless of how excited they got or how high their expectations are. Another game people are going to be dissapointed by, Gran Turismo 5. Not because it will necesarily be bad but because after 6 years in development it better be the best damn racing game ever made.

It was more a generalization rather than refering directly to Final Fantasy 13.

Like I've said before: I don't care about your opinions anymore. I just want some info about the game itself, not your oh-so-important-thoughts.

I think ruledbysecrecy put it best in one of the dozens of "FINAL FANTASY 13 IS A DISAPPOINTMENT" articles.

Need I remind you this is gamegrep, where we scower the internet for the most useless sources of videogame journalism. Even down to the article writers and website owners submitting their own content.

Well, this would have been useful, but there's no content on the source besides vague allusions to what the author thinks. And more to the point, I don't think this article should even be read. If you can't write in proper English with things like sentences and correct spelling, then don't post it in English. This Games Thirst article left me wanting a cool drink of something else...

That's the problem, they've been working on it for too long, releasing slight details here and there to keep interest. Naturally, the hype would build tremendously over the course of the last few years. Disappointment follows.

Meh, reviews are reviews, going to wait for user-reviews and also try it out myself...if it truly is as said by the "pros" then so be it.

No desire to play this game, personally. Still, I think Square Enix just started building the hype too early. Like others have said, that much hype is bound to lead to letdowns.

I think many gamers / reviewers may feel cheated because of that buildup.

Edit: According to Eurogamer, Japan didn't like Final Fantasy XII? I had no idea.

Well, it has sold close to two million copies over there, so I'd say Japan likes it.

i'm sure it's lame, but not because of what everyone is bitching about. linearity isn't so bad. personally, i don't like wandering around in some poorly-designed forest elf town trying to remember WTF AM I SUPPOSED TO DO, desperately trying to figure out which npc i have to talk to in order to trigger the process that continues the game after 3 hours of wandering, and mashing the A button on every single object possible.
