The influence, roles and portrayals of women in video games seems to be a hot topic lately. Bitmob.com takes a look at the ways women are portrayed in gaming and whether or not it needs to change...

I often giggle as I listen to the players on Xbox live that were calling me several variations on women’s genitalia earlier in the match turn into perfect gentlemen the second my wife chimes in. That’s well and good. But what are women supposed to think about our medium when the majority of our games are populated with scantily clad women with impossible physiques? We can argue that the males are similarly endowed with bulging muscles and cleft chins, but I have yet to play a game where the camera lingers lovingly on the male character’s generous package. It’s not that the women in games are attractive, it’s the way that many are portrayed and viewed that troubles me.

I can find a whole mall filled with girls with such builds/clothing if I go to Miranda. Not that I'd say it's particularly a good thing, I just think it's not an impossible target like the source seemed to suggest, giving it the same sort of reputation build that most magazines do these days. Nor is it far from the truth with how many girls present themselves that way in the modern era. Is it because of the female characters in games? I'd doubt it. Still a male dominated scene at the moment.

Please tell me you're referring to the picture of Elena, and not the Ninja Gaiden 2 girl.

A bit of everything to be honest, it's the place to go for all horny male needs. Hence my friends dragged me all the way up to Sydney just to see a movie...

Guys love looking at woman way more than woman love looking at men, and more guys play games than girls, so I think the situation we have now sort of makes a perfect sense.

Miss Razz is the exception as she eyes someone down with those cold creepy eyes of hers until the man either runs away or talks to her.

And women love to look at men, they just perfected the "art" of eye goggling without no one noticing.

I'm the reason she's still around (I find her quite striking, and have an affinity for scythes).

Ya, I bet it's the scythes that turns you on

You can have her. And she uses scythes? I thought they were just giant hammers/mallets. xD

    Nice one Red 9. XD
I really do not care how people look in games. Just the gameplay.
