Jonathan Holmes of destructoid.com discusses two Toad characters who, currently, are nameless. Do these two little cute guys deserve names of their own? Or shall they remain in the shadows, minor characters of little importance?

Among other things, that means that the game's two new characters, "Blue Toad" and "Yellow Toad," are quickly becoming two of the series' most well-known characters. But these two still don't have any officially sanctioned names.

Telling us who these new Toads are would take up valuable seconds, and might cause some of us to think. That could potentially detract from the player's ability to slip into the experience of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, or at least, maybe that's what Nintendo's thinking.

What's the point? They are Toads. It's like the Yoshis. You have a blue Yoshi, a red Yoshi, etc.. If you name the Toads you may as well do the Yoshis...hell, do the different colored shells Koopas whilst you're at it.

And to keep things simple for players of all ages, it's better to recognize them by their color.

I don't really see the point in giving them names. Toad's cool and all, but he's not considered an important character in the storyline, so just "Green Toad" or "Blue Toad" works just fine in this case. I'm pretty sure all the different colored Yoshis and Koopas have the same names as well.

Just keep them as Yellow Toad, Blue Toad etc.. Just like the enemy Birdo has variants of his traditional Pink, they don't change his name they just call the variant Green Birdo or Blue Birdo.

Giving them names is a bit stupid. They have colours to tell them apart and that's all they really need. If they had names people would probably still just call them the blue one and stuff.

There is a difference between the Yoshis.

Basic green yoshi with orange shoes=Mario's Signature Yoshi

    Every other color=The Yoshi Horde

I kind of like the anonymity of it. Though I do hope they get names like "Frank" and "Tony"

...Or "Nancy" and "Star-Quisha" (no joke, one of my friends in highschool had that name)
