Lucas DeWoody of kombo.com, has typed up a blog entry concerning originality and where it can be found. The question is, is it the East or the West? Read on about his example games and thoughts.

Every so often I hear people talk about how they miss the days when Japan ran the game industry. I don't think they so much miss the days when Japanese developers were on top of the world as much as they miss the days when Japanese developers/publishers actually worked in large to promote creativity rather than just follow trends. Those days have faded. While many great games still come out of Japan, thanks mostly to their always shrinking console market and a lack of knowledge on how to revive it, Japanese publishers are now more determined to cater to American gaming stereotypes.

    BANDITO ATTACK Jan 22, 10
every game company from every region milks every franchise that they possibly can, and they all copy each other. it's not a competition, none of them are trying to be original. except gearbox.

Lately its been the west, but for a while it was the east. But as bandito said, they're milking the franchises now. Nothing original about that.
