Are Lost and Final Fantasy VII Unofficially Connected?

GameZone's Louis Bedigian discusses the similarities between Final Fantasy VII and ABC's Lost. His points and counterpoints seem spot-on when it comes to the analysis of what could be connections.

It’s a strange thought, isn’t it? How could a video game have anything to do with a fantasy (some would say sci-fi) drama like Lost?

Crazy or not, it seems that the hit show is unofficially (but almost spiritually) connected to Final Fantasy VII.

    Er... I don't see how similar plot points make them related. Avatar and Pocohantas have very similar plots but I wouldn't say there's anything more to it than that.

    Being spiritually connected and ripping something off is quite different to be honest.

    All jokes aside though, some of the similarities could easily come from the writers of lost being influenced by their love for FF7? A few of the points weren't even similar to be honest. Especially the last one.

    Lost is back tonight... I cannot wait! =) There should be a FFVII show.
