Insert-Disc: I can't get excited about Sonic 4

Kyle LaCroix of Insert-Disc explains how SEGA's years of failure and disappointment has killed any possible excitement for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1.

There is nothing right now to suggest that Sonic 4 will be anything but classic Sonic with fancy new graphics, the awesome new game that we’ve been awaiting for years. I want Sonic 4 to be really good and prove that SEGA can still do things right, but I don’t expect it. Two generations straight of SEGA failing has ruined the faith I had in them. I had a sliver left, but Sonic Unleashed and actually playing Sonic 2006 completely killed that, leaving only bitterness.

    I might get shit for this, but I never cared for the old Sonic games much. :/

    So Sonic 4 doesn't really mean much to me.

      You're right, you are gonna get shit for this. Its like saying Mario 3 sucked.

      But you must not have grown up with them, so in that case, you are entitled.

        i grew up with the sonic games, and played them as a kid and i still think they suck. i have a hard time playing past the 3rd level on any sonic game without getting bored out of my mind.

        Yup, I had a SNES growing up, I have no nostalgia for Sonic at all.

    Played the original sonic games so much as a kid, so i really can't wait for this one! Hope it stays true to the classics and it'll be the best next gen sonic game yet!

    I was a Nintendo kid back in the day, didn't own a Genesis but would go over to a friend's solely for this series (and Streets of Rage). Got my Genesis around the PS1/N64/Dreamcast days just to play some classics. Sonic was at his best on the Genesis, imo, the 2D-sidescroller fit him perfectly. Now I understand how faith in this game could be low due to Sonic's current track record in games, but meh, this definitely is a treat to the old-school.

    If they don't flood it with stupid characters it'll be awesome. I for one am looking forward to it and will definitely be purchasing.

    Sonic 1 was first game I actually owned. I got the 4th level only once, and after that I could only get there using the level select cheat. Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 were both too easy in comparison though. I'm a little excited to see what they do with this one, but I doubt it will be anything special.
