wii_alvin is joining in with discussing a current hot topic by making a blog entry concerning hardcore titles on the Wii. So why do third party developers struggle? Read on to find out what they have to say on the matter, including some suggestions on how to do better in the future.

In light of some decisions recently made by third party developers, I believe I have some ideas as to why it's hard to sell hardcore third-party titles on the Wii.

So what do you do? The Wii doesn't have all the technical features of the 360 or the PS3. So how can a third party make a Wii hardcore title that can compete with 360 and PS3 hardcore titles? EA actually had a pretty good idea with Dead Space: Extraction. HD console owners who like Dead Space would be interested. Plus, there aren’t a lot of HD on-rails games for the title to compete with. Unfortunately, there are a lot of Wii on-rails games for it to compete with. Nevertheless, I can see why EA decided to make the game.

Because the technology they're given to work with is old.

    It's not a hard question.

It's more because of the idea that all third party titles are shovelware and the only things worth getting on the console are made by nintendo.

I sort of agree. With the exception of Final Fantasy and Monster Hunter, it's really tough selling stuff on the Wii due to people seeing it as a kiddie system and the marketing and gameplay usually taking a backseat in the entire process.
