In recent years, the music genre has really boomed, with gamers seeing the creation of such innovative titles as Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Now though, the sector has become stagnant. Read on to find out the thoughts of Joey Esposito on the matter of what he describes as being "Maddenitis".

Oh, happy day! A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that the sales of games in the music genre are down a whopping 46%, or $1.06 billion dollars. Better yet, the over-stayed-its-welcome Guitar Hero franchise didn't even hit one million units sold with its 5th entry in 2009, compared to 3.4 million of World Tour that came before it.

They may be getting old but they are still extremely fun to play.

Rock Band 2 is still my favorite of these games. World Tour wasn't really that good at all. Legends of Rock was great but I overplayed that game to much and can barely touch it now without being bored with it.

I have one Guitar Hero game, and tbh, it keeps me satisfied whenever I feel like rocking out with a plastic controller. I just don't see much of a need to buy the new games unless I feel like trying out the other peripherals (drums'n'stuff).

These games are victim to the size of a TV, I mean yes they could add 24 buttons down the neck of the game guitar so that it's more authentic, but these games have now gone down the band route. The screen is cramped at times as it is with someone on guitar, bass, drums and vocals let alone those instruments having even more buttons to press.

These games will continue to become stale until developers decide to expand one instrument and give it it's own game with a complex array of buttons and stuff. I think the drums will be the one to make that switch as give the Rock Band/Guitar Hero drums a few more pads, a pedal for the hi-hat and a few more symbols and they can start teaching people real drums, guitar not so much.
