This is an article from gaming website PlanetXbox360.com that looks at what happens when classic video game franchises forget their roots and what the outcome is, usually everyone loses when that happens.

Video Games have existed just a bit longer than I’ve been alive to play them (a sentence that will surely date me in the eyes of my audience). But since their inception into the world and over the expanse of time into our popular culture, there have been franchises that have received multiple iterations and have ‘changed with the times’, so to speak. Most notably would be Mario, Nintendo’s lovable plumber who has rescued Princess Peach on more occasions than I care to remember. Over the years we have seen other characters such as Sonic and Master Chief grow into characters that are shaped over series of games, both good and bad. For the most part, these are franchises that have remained fresh and interesting out of the sole fact that they’ve stuck with the mechanics that made them fun in the first place.

Why the hell do people do this? We (ie. people who aren't fanatics of Dynasty Warriors and Pokemon) don't want the same shit over and over again.

"Terribly janky gameplay" - That could be a valid opinion, except for the fact that this idiot never explained. "By tearing away the solitary mechanic of grappling with a mechanical arm, it does a disservice to the source material and ends up jading both the gamers who are new to a franchise as well as those who grew up with it" is not a reason; it's just blind nostalgia (see also: bullshit) that makes me want to punch every fanboy in the head every time they say "3D SONIC SUCKS DICKS CUZ THE VOICE ACTING SUCKS AND THE NEW DESIGN DOESN'T SUIT THE OLD SCHOOL GAMEPLAY" (or something of that nature). If every game was the same thing, it'd get boring and redundant. Did you check out the new Dynasty Warriors game? Great job failing my test if you actually acknowledge that there are new games coming out in that franchise, because it's the same thing as the second Dynasty Warriors game. And that's my point - saying something sucks because it's different from its source material IS BULLSHIT!

The only things I agreed with was what he said about Bionic Commando: Rearmed being a kickass remake, and Golden Axe: Beast Rider being a piece of shit. However, the latter sucked not because it's not like the Sega Genesis originals, but because it's a mediocre hack and slash game. See, even when you're dissing games, you can still look at them without feelings of nostalgia.

Seriously, I hate people like this.

Actually the latest Dynasty Warriors was an almost complete reboot of the series.

I'm surprised Resident Evil wasn't mentioned, tbh.

Surely the problem isn't changing the core basics so much as just outright screwing up the game.
