This fan submission article discusses the reasons why the popular Legend of Zelda series will not gain respect with hardcore gamers. Points include Nintendo's laziness, repetitive gameplay, and more.
With The Legend of Zelda series being one of the most successful gaming franchises to date, what I am about to say will probably come as a shock, but none the less, it is all true. In its current state, The Legend of Zelda franchise will not ever be, and is not currently respected by the average hardcore gamer. It is my intention to state what elements of the game that needs changed to bring the series up to par and make it more worthy of respect. While stating all of this however, I will not deny the success the series has had thus far, nor will the fan be belittled. With all disclaimers out of the way, here is why the Zelda franchise just can not be respected.

Great first comment on the page though.
Don't waste you time guys, this guy pretty much contradicts himself.
You can tell by the "M" on the box. It stands for maximum.
Oh no, wait, they think it's legendary.
Newsflash: Zelda is one of the most well respected franchises as it is. May lose respect if the new ones don't start shaping up but it will NEVER be respected by hardcore gamers?
You clearly know nothing Mr. Author and I feel ashamed for even clicking the link and giving you the poxy traffic figures you're so clearly whoring for.
Also Zelda games are games that hardcore gamers like on the Wii when they simply don't give a damn of most of the stuff that is on the Wii like Wii Fit.
If more games like the Zelda's were on the Wii then more hardcore gamers would like the Wii.
Just ask Fierce Deity Link when he fights Majora.
All the author is rambling about is what things he thinks need to be updated in the next Zelda game. And, sure, some things do need to be updated... but pre-determined boss battles and a lack of monsters =/= a game that nobody respects.
Or not come at all is more like it.
It's not respected by "hardcore gamers" because the typical "hardcore gamer" is actually an ADD derelict who only likes first person shooters and 2D fighting games. Personally, I wouldn't mind some hack and slash gameplay like Darksiders or Soul Reaver, but that's just me, I don't know about the rest of you.
Fail article is fail.
"why articles like this will never be accepted by hardcore gamers"
- First of all, there have only been four major "Toon Link" Zelda titles so far (Wind Waker, Four Swords, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks) and all of them have not only been highly rated and respected (thus contradicting the article itself) without any Zelda fans complaining about the character himself.
- The graphical style of Wind Waker was great, as was the rest of the cell-shaded games Nintendo has released. Your opinion on them "sucking" is completely subjective, but your statement on them not attracting enough fans is completely false as many Zelda fans loved Wind Waker partly because of the game's visual appeal.
- Second of all, holy hell do you even know what your talking about with the graphics? Let me just remind you that there has yet to be a Zelda game made for the Wii console that uses the Wii's graphics. Twilight Princess was a Gamecube port so don't even count it. Considering how well that game looked, as well as Super Mario Galaxy, I can see that Nintendo can easily make a great looking Wii Zelda game. And the fact that this is the Wii which boasts motion control (1:1 technology with WMP) instead of HD graphics, that is a big deal. Also, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks were DS games and considering the open world environment and art design, they looked far better than half the DS' library.
- There are many, and I mean many, moments of Twilight Princess where you engage in full and large scale battles with waves of enemies across the fields of Hyrule. If you missed that part of the game (assuming that you even played it ffs) then you'll know what I'm talking about during plenty of moments in the game's story. The over-world itself is not cluttered with enemies (once again, this is a Gamecube game) but that at least keeps the travel from being too much of a chore and forcing you to fight armies every time you want to move from town to town. It may sound fun in your head but I guarantee you it would get repetitive.
- Oh my God, a Nintendo game with plot holes? No way! Seriously, every game has unanswered plot holes. Stop whining that Nintendo didn't answer every question in the game and worrying about Ganon's insecurity.
- If the ratings and universal acclaim every Zelda game has gotten is any indicator whatsoever, the formula is not getting stale. If you can't appreciate the game flow, your not a Zelda fan. Your subjective opinion isn't a universal fact so stop judging the entire hardcore community on how fresh you find the last Zelda game (assuming you even played it).
