Would an FPS be 'evolving' if it removed the 'FPS' aspect from majority of it? Survival Horror isn't evolving. Several new kinds of Horror games have evolved from it, but to call them Survival Horror is making 'Survival Horror' too broad of a generalization, you may as well call all shooters FPS regardless of whether they're first person or not.

it needs to be simply changed to a 'Horror' genre, with things like Action-Horror, Haunted House Sims and Survival Horror as sub-genres with in it. The range and variation between Horror games is simply too large and different now to try and call them all one kind of Horror, that has always had a rather specific definition.

Also going off on a tangent for a moment here, the reason they're making Dead Space 2 less scary is because it's too scary for some people? This is a perfect example of when 'mainstream' is a bad thing.
