One of the most gamer-oriented movies of recent times, Gamer went ignored or resented by its target audience. The movie was made by gamers, explicitly for gamers. What went wrong?

2009's Gamer was written and directed by Neveldine/Taylor, the game-friendliest directors currently (arguably ever) working in Hollywood. Its editing style was cemented by a guy whose day job is cutting short films that make people love videogames. The movie's central conceit is a sci-fi/action exploration of games and gaming culture, with an emphasis on the action. For gamers, by gamers

I liked the shots, and I watched it because I like the camera it was shot on.

I'm probably going to end up watching it sooner or later (Gerard Butler + Michael C. Hall should make it at least watchable) but I'm not really expecting greatness. It's not that the film sucks major balls or anything, it just isn't particularly toted as goods. A resounding 'meh' from the film community isn't the best sign.

Maybe a decent action movie, possibly worth the watch, but it just flew under the radar.

Because it's a generic above average action movie like all the other generic above average (more or less) action movies?
