Adam Brown goes in-depth about sequels that failed to live up to expectations due to a high amount of hype going into the second installment of the series.

Unfortunately, this type of sequel success isn’t always a given. Even some of the biggest franchises out there have stumbled on their second tries, leaving a plethora of heartbroken fans in the wake of an either flawed or drastically different than expected sequel. As testament to this all too common phenomenon, here are five of the most notable examples of sequels throughout the years bearing the number 2, or the significantly more stylish Roman numeral II, that sadly couldn’t manage to live up to the expectations set by the fans of their beloved predecessors.

Firstly, Kotor II sucked. It doesn't need a mention.

Secondly, Why is Half Life 2 or Team Fortress 2 not mentioned on there?

Metal Gear Solid 2 is one of the best games available on PS2, just the lack of Snakeness made it the best game of all time. But hey, Kojima had to stop our minds exploding from sheer awesomeness somehow.

MGS2 was in no way, shape, or form a disappointment. Anyone who thinks so just doesn't appreciate great games.

I think LucasArts really needed to greenlight a KOTOR 3 before they announced the MMO. That way they could have avoided the anger of the fans who have been waiting for the much needed sequel and probably would have drummed up even more excitement for the MMO. As it stands I don't want to have anything to do with TOR until I've finished the KOTOR trilogy. Now I continue to play the waiting game.

Kotor 3 would've been horrible. Kotor II was bad because BioWare didn't develop it.

I doubt that Kotor 3 would be good unless BioWare would do it, but i don't think they'd do it now, since they make so much money already with Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

I think you'll find a certain game known as Modern Warfare 2 should be top of this list. Surely the most anticipated game ever would have netted the developers enough money to make sure it doesn't have game breaking glitches on release.
