Bioshock 2 has been praised but remains in the shadow of Bioshock. Many gamers didn't find it as fresh as the original. Regardless of how you rate the game, it is the "shock" franchise that set a standard for involved, cerebral FPS play when first-person shooters were mindless frag-fests.

This piece includes thoughts on the series and what led up to Bioshock 2 being the game it is.

I still play the original Bioshock more. Great storyline. If they just found some way of directly continuing the storyline in Bioshock 2, I think it'd be more successful.

When I think about it 2K Marin did a great job with BioShock 2 considering BioShock itself left no loose ends. BioShock was a very solid standalone game and didn't really need a sequel, so the fact 2K Marin made one and it wasn't the massive disaster it could have been it really quite amazing.

aka they forced a sequel/prequel where they made sure to leave no room for it.

Pretty sure all the Bioshock games are going to be standalone's, making up new adventures in Rapture.

I just don't think a sequel was ever going to work story wise...

I mean, a prequel may have been better, but I still can't see how it was gonna top the original.

How would a prequel work? Like, when Rapture is on the verge of falling, or when they arrive?

I think they should have provided a better ending or opening to Bioshock so they could go in Bioshock 2 with the same character.

Or they could of just not made a sequel.
