It's arguable that Wii Music is quite possibly Nintendo's most misunderstood game of this generation. It's the black sheep of forums and critics alike. But what if the game has more substance than meets the eyes, and all we need is a different approach while playing it to fully experience what it has to offer? One such editor believes the game has gotten unfair criticism by the media who are simply too conservative to accept that Wii Music isn't about "playing" but about "creating."

Myth #3: Wii Music suffers from having a lack of goals, and not providing the player with a sense of accomplishment

False. Again, I think people just really missed the point on this one. What’s the goal of Animal Crossing? Uhhhh... right, there isn’t one. You make your own goals. People seem to understand this about Animal Crossing. That’s what a “sandbox game” is, after all. They can’t seem to grasp this concept when it comes to Wii Music, however. A lot of times when I go into play the game I have an idea of what I want to do. Something like, “I’d really like to make a good Wii Music Video inspired by Phoenix’ 1901”, or “I wonder what happens if I do a recording with the flute as the chord?” Those are the goals. The reward is the satisfaction of a job well done. That might seem incredibly lame, but let me tell you: in all my gaming experience, nothing is as satisfying as when I’ve worked really hard and recorded a great Wii Music Video that I’m proud of. I love sending if off to my friends via WiiConnect24 and hearing their feedback on it. I don’t need the game telling me how well I did to get a sense of accomplishment; in fact after you’ve recorded your jam session you get to give yourself a score. After all, you know how well you did. So what if the game doesn’t say “You Rock!” after you finish a song, or give you some arbitrary numerical score -- do you really need that to enjoy the game? Of course not. And if you do, frankly that’s a little sad.

if it is software available for a video game console, it will be judged as a video game, and not some clunky music creation software.
