Nathan Schmidt of Allegedly Speaking writes a cautionary tale of why starting your own video game website is not quite as cool or glamorous as you might think.

So you’re thinking of starting your own video game website. You look around the internet landscape and see all these other sites and think “I'm way more original than those guys, I'm gonna be a rock star”. Bullsh@t, your mind is playing tricks on you! You are not the unique little snowflake that you think you are. There are not mountains upon mountains of people waiting to become part of your community and absolutely no advertisers lining up to throw gobs of payola at you for some of that ad space you allocated. For every independent site that makes it there are thousands of others that never see any significant numbers at all.
