Kyle of Insert-Disc takes a look at the PlayStation Move, and how, despite what Sony desperately wants, it will not be a huge Wii-like success and that Sony just doesn't understand the success of the Wii.

People were not very optimistic at last years E3 when Sony showed off the unnamed motion controller. It’s been almost a year since then and we are just now getting more information about it, information that does not exactly fill me with confidence. The Move might be a pretty cool device, but it’s not going to do what Sony desperately wants it to do: get the Nintendo market. The GDC unveiling of the name and fresh information shows that Sony wants to get the casual market that bought so many Wiis that until recently you couldn’t even find them in the stores. The problem is, they are missing all of what made Nintendo successful.

Somebody's a nitpicker...I didn't even finish the article; after he started bitching about Playstation not being as synonymous with gaming as Nintendo, I just quit.

Sony/Playstation has had more all round success than Nintendo in their 16 years in the industry. Nintendo have been doing it longer sure, but the SNES was Nintendo's prodigy something that was hard to top. The N64 didn't do as well as hoped and the Gamecube was a commercial failure. The Wii is a partial return to form as far as sales go but the games are still rather bad. Sony on the other had dip from time to time, but ultimately have been the most consistant console manufacturer in gaming history, their console sales and number of world class gaming franchises cannot be matched by anyone.

Yeah, because my grandma knows what Nintendo is. I'd be surprised if she had heard of it. And i'm sure all of those teenage girls didn't buy the Wii because it was Nintendo. They got it because it was the only technology like that. Now there are others, just a little more pricey, but works better doesn't mean people won't buy it.

    Whatever you say Insert-DiscDotCom.

I think most people today, especially non-gamers, think PlayStation when they think gaming. They don't even consider the Wii a videogame system either. The whole industry is in a very weird place. I see this shit first hand working at a Target where there are more old people that don't have a damn clue in there to look at Wiis and buy games. I can't say I'd like to thank them.

It's like we're bringing gaming to an audience that won't even be around in 30 years, let alone still playing them in 2 or 3.

Dude, they're not buying games for their grandkids, they come in looking for the stupidest shit with the intent to play it themselves.

I see that all the time at gamestop. Its always the "Wii sports" and the "Wii exercise" with them. The Wii is synonymous with old people and children...

I'm glad 360 and PS3 are getting some kind of motion controls, that way hardcore/serious gamers have something to do besides "Birthday Party Wii","Imagine Babies", and the hundredth edition of "Petz"/

This guy is pretty much being nitpicking. Btw, your first sentence about "not being optimistic last year," what facts do you have to back that up dude???

As long as there is some good software, MOVE should do fine...

Yeah, I hate it when journalists try to apply blanket statements like that; "People weren't optimistic." I thought a lot of people were quite optimistic about it tbfh.

Wow what a crap article. Sounds like a fanboy who's angry that another console might be onto something half decent.

Amen, this may actually be common place with Wii gamers annoyed that PS3 gamers may have a better controller and 360 gamers concerned that Natal may not work as well as hyped. The arguments can go all ways though PS3 gamers annoyed that Move doesn't look as good as Natal etc.. This motion war is gonna cause some interesting discussions and flame wars alike.

I actually agree witha fair part of this article. The Wii was pushed from the start as kid and user friendly, something light hearted and fun and different, which Sony is clearly trying to recreate. The problem is the PS3 hasn't been associated with any of those things, and forcing it on now just isn't going to work, this thing will make a minor boost in sales, and then probably be forgotten in year. That's what I see happening anyway.
