Final Fantasy XIII is Square Enix's excuse to show off the White Engine. However, pretty graphics do not a good game make. Can the rest of the game hold up under the weight of its own pleasing aesthetics?

Final Fantasy reviews are getting annoying now because they just want attention. Considering majority of the 'real' consumers are enjoying the game, I would say it kicks some ass. These people probably gave GTAIV a 10/10...

Then couldn't that simply be a case of the 'real' consumer liking it because they waited so long for it. It's kinda like mild fanboyism I'm not calling you a fanboy don't worry, but most of the 'real' consumers are Final Fantasy fans and most are not going to dislike this game even if it was the worst game ever made they have waited to long for it not to complete it.

These reviewers some might be after attention, but I seriously don't think every single one that rated this game poorly is. I mean surely it is absurd to say that anyone that rates this game low is after attention. What happened to reviews being an opinion and not fact? You enjoy the game, good for you but there are going to be reviews where people genuinely do not like this game.

I mean this guy doesn't like the story which is fair enough. For a fan of the game they could say "this game has the best story in comparison to past games" which may be accurate, but that is the thing this reviewer isn't just rating this game on past performance but on other games with better stories. If this story feels dated and doesn't flow well or anything the reviewer isn't going to give it good marks in that criteria for being worse than other games.. I mean come on for the most part this guy enjoyed the game just because he thought the story wasn't that great doesn't meant he's gagging for attention.

oh I am a fanboy of Final Fantasy, I will not deny that. As you can see with the other comments here, the 'real' consumers enjoy the game. However, at least it got 4/5, not bad at all, but the title itself gives it a negative tone which I do not like...

ShadowGuard is completely right. Also the story for FFXIII is really good, probably one of the best storys in a video game lately.

Acually, the story for FF13 is one of the best in the series in my opinion... Especially after reading the summary they have of it in the guide. A lot of thought was put into it.

Out of all the FF games, this one so far has easily has the most believable characters in terms of personality and conflicts. I think this is largely due to where we are now when it comes to animation and voice work. The VO in this game is excellent. Sure there are some oddities, but overall, these characters are very believable. They each seem to have their own set of values, where as in previous FF games most characters seemed to share the same values and rarely butt heads.

Here we have what is largely a cast of strangers getting together for the first time and having to work together and survive, and along the way they share differing points of view and that results in fairly dramatic and realistic reactions. I really like it.

It took a while to warm up but I'm having a blast with FF13. I'm also enjoying the whole mythos of the world, the Fal'Cie, L'Cie and everything. I'm eager to learn more.

For once we can agree on something, FF13 has easily one of the best stories in a game of this generation, the backstory and all the mythos are fantastic. I'm loving how the characters are developing relationships to each other as you play through and don't just immediatly know each other from the get go.

Eager to keep playing my copy now to see how the story continues.
