Go Fanboy looks at the some of the factors holding back the success of Sony's Playstation Portable console. In particular, the marketing of the handheld is brought into question.

While fanboys argue back and forth about what holds the Xbox 360 back or why the Wii is "lame", the Playstation 3 and Playstation Portable hardware have been facing the toughest foe of all, their own manufacturer. For some reason Sony just keeps shooting itself in the foot and refusing to catch on.

I don't think marketing would help. Sure it would get a few sales but Sony are against Nintendo, I personally believe Sony are thankful to still be in the handheld race. I mean history dictates that anyone that goes up against Nintendo in the handheld race drops out because Nintendo are too strong. I think Sony will advertise the next gen PSP lots now they have that 70 million unit foothold in the market, but the original PSP is doing well by itself.

I think a lot of PSP owners believe PSP>DS.

The GameBoy (and DS) has been like the Wii for a long time now. In that it appeals to children as well as adult gamers, but definitely more to children. That accounts for a huge reason that the PSP isn't as successful as the DS, being a handheld marketed much more towards adults.

If Sony's current marketing is bad, then I can't imagine what 'good' would be...

They need to bring back that white woman versus that black man ad. That ad was awesome. It totally sucks that we live in a world where that can't exist without someone getting all up in arms with it.

So creative. It's not like that's a white man in black face people! An actual black man agreed to do this and i'm pretty sure he probably thought it was a pretty brilliant idea too. *bleep* the masses...

I think the people who argue that ads like those are racists, are actually racists themselves. 'Cause if you're not racist, that wouldn't bother you; it would seem like artistic advertisement rather than racist imagery.
