Capcom's Sengoku Basara series is quite popular in Japan, but was never a big success overseas. While Capcom hope that the upcoming Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes will change that, Kotaku's Brian Crecente brings up the question of whether a game that revolves around Japan's history and samurai period can ever truly be popular in the West.

The Sengoku Period of Japanese history was rife with intrigue, war, social upheaval and, apparently, sexy samurai.

Capcom’s enormously popular Sengoku Basara action video game series has spawned comics, movies, a line of food products, a live-action theatre production and castle tours, but little interest over the years outside of Japan.

The Japanese developer hopes to change that with Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes, the first in the series to hit North America since the release of the initial game, which was renamed Devil Kings for its 2005 release in the US.

I know I could, haha. To be honest, if you could give me a samurai game with great controls and fluid actions to make it seem realistic, I'd be in for it. And I want actual cuts and wounds (even on the main character). Not a damage system where you cut the same place multiple times (not leaving wounds) in order for them to go down. In other words, a realistic life system, and I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Is that too much to ask though? =P

Sadly, this just seems like a Dynasty Warriors game really. Needs less button mashing. =(

You want Kengo: Master of Bushido.

There's no cosmetic damage, but lethal strikes are one hit kills, you can cause bleeding and other things like that.

Sweet, loltaku strikes again with the article title that doesn't really relate to the actual article.
