Go Fanboy writer Charles Austin speculates on the future of the Xbox brand as a whole without the assistance of the developers who created the main franchises the Xbox brand was built on.

Microsoft has dropped the ball in so many instances now that it may be completely impossible to recover. Fans of the mega-company's gaming hardware have to face some facts at this point when it comes to the franchises that Microsoft had used to establish the Xbox brand in the first place. They're gone.

It was always going to be an issue Microsoft was going to reach at some point. Though Microsoft played their cards and decided that game exclusivity was more important than developer exclusivity.

Hardly dead. A couple of companies may have gone multi-plat, but they still hold the rights to several IPs; Gears, Alan Wake, Crackdown, Fable, and even Halo- you can be certain M$ won't stop the franchise just because its developers won't make anymore Halo games- to name a few.

No offense but horrible post riddled with missing information, inaccuracies, and flamebait statements.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Microsoft sign on 343 to make more Halo games? I don't really think that most of the people who play the game religiously will care who's making it, it will still sell.

There's many great IPs coming, and they have franchises like Mass Effect, Gears, Fable, Crackdown - even if they do lose Halo, they've got Bulletstorm as a possible replacement. They'll be fine.

I know plenty of people including myself who own an xbox and not a ps3 and don't even like PGR. Just because Bungie might not be Microsoft exclusive anymore doesn't mean they won't make any games for Microsoft (Microsoft aparantly still won the rights to Halo anyway). Xbox360 still has a decent ammount of really good exclusives; suprised no one has mentioned Valve and Left for Dead yet. Even if some companys are no longer exclusive to Xbox their games will probably still come out on the Xbox anyway. I personally don't even play Xbox for the exclusives. I play Xbox over PS3 just because I think it is a much better system that just works a lot better over all. All I've ever had is trouble with the PS3.

It saddens me that idiots like this actually get paid to pretend they know what they are talking about

The Xbox 360 has been doing just fine lately, seeing as a full-fledged Halo game hasn't released in a while, and that PGR4 was a long time ago. They're more than fine as it is.

I wouldn't exactly say that PGR is keeping the Xbox 360 alive. The racing game community isn't as large as the online multiplayer shooter community.
