Joe from Allegedly Speaking analysis the disturbing trend of developers "dumbing down" games for mass market approval. Some of the games that get the finger pointed at them are Gears Of War 2, FFXIII, and SC: Conviction.

As the majority of gamers these days appear to be dull-witted whiners with little in the way of reflexes or strategic capability, games are being made so that these tool-sheds can buy the games and not be completely left behind.

I haven't played the other two games, so I have no comment there, but he's totally off the mark on FFXIII.

How exactly do 3 popular series "sell out"?

Close-range sniping. Oxymoron much? Similarly, you've never heard of someone setting a grenade as a trap. Or that in the future you might want smart grenades when fighting aliens. Seriously. Really.

Grinding in Final Fantasy. Why do so many people claim a right to play stupidly?

Fisher is a super-soldier with fancy goggles. I don't think it's that big a stretch to give him some sort of Longbow or AEGIS type multi-targeting.

There are more games out there that are less challenging than games were in the arcade days. This has been evolving as the popularity of games has increased. For a while, games had difficulty settings so that both new and experienced gamers could enjoy the same games. Now we've reached a point where you have to read the reviews carefully so that you're not either bored by a too easy game, or frustrated by a game designed for very experienced gamers.
