It's time for another Retro Rewind where Game Podunk reviews timeless classics that are too good to be forgotten. In this installment, Game Podunk presents Battletoads, a quirky and original title released back in 1991.

Why Was (Is) Battletoads Such a Great Game? Everything about Battletoads was quirky and original. The names of the Battle toads (Rash, Zitz and Pimple) were disgusting and hilarious and enemies were often indescribable blobs and sticks. The game combined some different aspects of game play such as 2D and 3D levels. The game play usually involved rapid reflexes and memorization of level mechanics. Players enjoyed this game because it was challenging and fun - especially with a second player. Although it inspired many frustrating late nights due to the non-continue system, Battletoads almost immediately entered cult status in the video game world.
