GameZone looks into the potential that Activision Blizzard may have tapped it's well dry with Call of Duty by taking a quick look at what has happened with their recent franchises as of late.

Every big franchise that releases games yearly is bound to be dethroned at some point – it’s the nature of the business. Along will come a unique war game that will take the genre in fresh directions and even high-profile established franchises like Call of Duty will be forced back to the idea board for innovation. And when that happens, a peripheral bundled with the game probably won’t be the answer.

Well, they have several other top sellers so they'll be fine.

Indeed; before this page loaded while I was trying to predict the franchise I never thought of CoD. They still have the Blizzard franchises, the Hero games etc.

They'll be fine but they are almost certainly going to fall from the top if Call of Duty turns out to not be as great as it can be any longer. Guitar Hero is already being way outdone by Rock Band.

Activision's focus on supporting only games that can do yearly releases is just plain stupid. It stifles creativity and supports derivative gameplay. I hope it fails only to show them that they can't keep this up without ruining their franchises.

You think they care about creativity or good gameplay? You poor bastard.

I have never played and never will play Rock Band and Guitar Hero I think I am just bored of as I used to get excited when the new main GH came out but I don't own GH5 and I don't plan to or any other GH sequel.

I don't think it will suffer on the next game -- Modern Warfare 2's gargantuan reputation will save it in terms of financial performance. However, if said sequel stinks on the gameplay front, then they'll be problems for all future iterations.
