Craig Hasselback explains why both Sony and Microsoft could learn a lot by paying closer attention to how Nintendo handles their major franchises and mascots in terms of releases and "over-use".

Both Sony and Microsoft could learn a little something from Nintendo and how they handle their major franchises and mascots. Microsoft has milked the Halo franchise to the point that the original developer can’t stand the idea of making another one. Sony on the other hand has pushed the God of War franchise a bit too much (six releases, with a seventh coming in Ghost of Sparta in under five years), but hasn’t sacrificed quality for quantity as fans of the series and critics alike both rave about each entry.

Sonic didn't fail because of oversaturation; the games post-2D were just crap.

The games post Sonic Adventure 2 were just crap.

Agreed, Sonic Adventure 2 was one of the best on the gamecube.

Heroes, the self title one, Shadow the Hedgehog, The Black Sword (or whatever its called) etc. were all horrendous.

God of War has not been milked yet. If they make another game after this PSP game with Kratos, then yes. But they have already hinted at keeping the God of War scheme, just different setting, which is fine.

This is just a bunch of Nintendo BS fanboyism.

    quote article
Nintendo wants to deliver a new experience with each release of a “Super Mario” title while God of War and Halo, which both offer distinctly different brands of entertainment often just bring more of the same with each new release.
And I suppose Super mario galaxy 2 is completely different?

And I don't want Microsoft or Sony to be more like Nintendo, alienating their fanbase with terrible online features, adding any shovelware to your collection of games and releasing them at ridiculous prices, and lets not forget that Nintendo is the king of milking franchises so don't say that sony and microsoft are the only guilty ones of milking their top titles.

You speak truth, the fact that the article mentions Super Mario is always a new experience is laughable, all they've done for Galaxy 2 is add Yoshi.

Nintendo don't gives two shits about people who have been loyal to them for a while, all they care about is money and pumping out shovelware.

Considering pretty much every aspect of modern consoles was pioneered by Nintendo, I think pretty much everyone in the video game world pays close attention to Nintendo already.

They could learn a lot from Nintendo, a lot about being money whoring *bleep* suckers who shit all over their fanbase.

Not that I'm bitter or anything...

I find that bitterness is often synonymous with truthfulness.

Oh yes, cause Super Mario Galaxy 2 is WAY different than Super Mario Galaxy 1

    Dicks.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is different in the respect that it got a rare 10/10 from both ign and gamespot while being praised as "the new standard for platformers" for its incredible integration of side-scrolling and platforming elements.

I hate when people judge a game without playing it.

Now a better argument would be, look at the Pokemon series.

You hate when people judge a game without playing it... exactly like you have?

    Jumping to assumptions much?

I could have used my own experiences as examples after picking it up yesterday but seeing as how I would just be seen as 'bias' or a 'fanboy' because I didn't have the influence or credentials as gamespot or ign, I decided to illustrate my point using the latter two.

And you didn't realize that nobody cares about gamespots or IGN's opinions since... ever? Fair enough if you have played it, my mistake, but speaking about another person's experience with it instead of your own implied you hadn't and remember, a positive judgement is still judgement.
