GameZone's Dave Snell discusses the lengths that gamers will go to earn achievements and trophies on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3; along with exploring if it affects the entire gaming experience.

So, yes, we all love achievements, but the system is far from perfect. Admittedly the gripes are often down to each gamer’s lack of self control, but the development teams could help us out too – after all, the system increases the time we spend with their titles anyway. Or maybe, we just need to learn some restraint, and learn to play a game instead of farm it?

So mr author think's we play games only to farm constantly and get their trophies...

    No.

We BEAT these games, and once we're done if we really enjoyed the game and the challenges within we then strive to obtain it's trophies. If you're trying to get all the trophies on playthrough one of any game like UC2, then your doing it wrong!

Except a lot of these trophies aren't "challenges", they're grind-fests.

Then don't do the ones that aren't fun to do, simple as that.

I agree. I'm always reminded of the good ol' days of Insomniac's "Skill Points." Those were some fun challenges that I enjoyed replaying for. Now, trophies that are fun like those . . . ah yes those are excellent to get. Trophies that are merely grind-fests or something so simple that it's worthless (ones you get doing nothing but playing the game through), they're insignificant.

But only those who play for trophies alone, are ruining the games. Myself, along with many other gamers, are enjoying the games just fine thank you
