Stevie Lim at Critical Gamer looks at the issues with the narrative of Final Fantasy XIII in relation to cinema. Does Square Enix get it right or does Final Fantasy XIII fail at telling a story.

Critical Gamer writes: Final Fantasy XIII essentially told a simple story. I know this now because I had someone explain it to me. Reasonable accusations about my intelligence aside, the logical conclusion is that the developer failed to tell the story effectively. That is somewhat surprising considering just how many cutscenes there are in which the plot could have been conveyed in a comprehensible manner.

The problem with FF13's narrative, is how they use terms without explaining them. They're like L'cie this, and Pulse that without actually explaining what it is. Instead they have some dictionary in the menu to explain it instead. I find this to be really lazy. I am not saying the story itself is inherently bad, but the way it goes about telling is poor.

I know what you mean, for the first 10 hours I didn't know the difference a lot of the terms.

Who was high when they were coming up with: L'Cie, Fal'Cie and Cie'th? Why do they all sound the *bleep*ing same
