Stevie Lim over at Critical Gamer looks at the newly announced 3DS and some of the forthcoming games that have been announced. Stevie also gives us his reasons why it won't fail.

Critical Gamer writes: If I wasn’t certain about it before E3 there isn’t any room left for doubt; the 3DS will be the most successful handheld of all time. Barring worldwide sterility, extraterrestrial invasion or all-out nuclear warfare (which may happen if North Korea are eliminated from the World Cup), the 3DS looks well placed to become an unqualified success. If it isn’t I will eat the hats of every homeless person in the northern hemisphere, and that’s a lot of tick infested items of clothing. So why would anyone risk contracting every disease know to man with such a pointless showboating wager? In my opinion failure for the 3DS is nigh on impossible.

well of course it's not gonna fail. If it has the nintendo logo on it it's pretty much garuanteed sucess these days =/

though I have to say the amount of games on the 3Ds seems very high quality and top notch. Not a shovelware game in sight. Go ninty

I'm more than willing to pay such a price, that's like two days of work for me.

Based on the hands on from Engadget, it seems iffy. You can easily lose the 3D illusion if you look at it at certain angles.

It'll still sell like dollar-scoop ice cream from Baskin Robbins.

Good thing then that the upgrade isn't just for 3D and for almost next gen quality graphics on a handheld. What I've heard about the 3D is there are many sweet spots at many angles where the effect works but if you are just playing normally, like you should be the effect will never be broken.

There's a "normal" way to play? I certainly don't sit there like a statue when I play games and often change the angle of the screen due to light or other reasons.

By the way, I really hope you aren't calling the 3DS graphic "almost next gen quality" and that you were more making a joke than anything else.

This is an obvious pun, but I have a funny feeling it will be true by the end of things:

The 3DS will sell 3 times as much as the regular DS. And that's one SCARY thought.

Correct me if I'm wrong but DS originally stood for dual-screen, right? So by this we can assume 3DS stands for 3 dual-screens, yet there are only two screens. This is false advertisement and they must be sued.

      ....wait that makes no sense

It's not going to fail because it's the Nintendo 3DS.
