TBH it doesn't seem like a Solid game to me. It's switching from sneaking and spying to just cutting everything in sight.

Some idiot from one of the bigger gaming websites said "MGS4 was already heading in the action shooter direction, so this is a welcome change." I heavily disagree; while MGS4 did have action sequences, the game was reliant on getting around guards without being seen. Rising seems like a complete departure from that. No wonder Kojima didn't have a problem with it being multiplatform...

Well ever since I bought the PSP Big Boss pack I've mostly been on my PSP than on my consoles with Portable Ops and Peace Walker...makes a nice distraction from this.

This is a spin off, so I don't expect a spin off to play exactly like the source material. Like, Drige of Cerberus, even though it sucked, it was a spin off so it played completely differently from the source material.

They never planned this on being a stealth game, hell they even changed the subtitle from "Tactical Espionage Action" to "Lightning Bolt Action"

So how is this a surprise... at all?

I think it's mainly because they tagged it with "Solid" when it really ought to be just "Metal Gear". THe 'Solid' moniker is often associated with the sneaking and stealth known for in the series. Hell, "Metal Gear Raiden" would be great!

The point that they should have known from the start still stands. It's like RE5; all that was said was it would be RE4 with co-op, which it was, yet people still bitched. This has always been toted as an action game, so why are people acting like this hasn't been common knowledge for ages?

Not to mention it's ridiculous for people to only be getting upset about the name.

It's more fun to bitch than to compliment. :-D

Actually the "Solid" moniker was added to differentiate the series from its more isometric top down releases.

"Solid" was added when the game went 3D unlike the most common association of "Solid" which people think is for Solid Snake which is also wrong. It is why Metal Gear Solid 2 was still "Solid" even though it was pretty much all about Raiden and Metal Gear Solid 3 was still "Solid" when it was all about Big Boss.

It has nothing to do with stealth just like Metal Gear 1 and 2 used stealth and they didn't have the "Solid" moniker. You see where I am going with this? Kojima has even clarified numerous times that the "Solid" in Metal Gear Solid was for the 3D transition and not Stealth.

I see what you mean. However, I think they should still have a different name to differentiate this game from the core MGS series. It's clearly not very much like any of the previous MGS's, and it should have a title to emphasize that (lightning bolt action subtitle doesn't count )
