Defcon: Awesome takes a look at the suspiciously high ratings that are coming out of the IGN editorial offices and finds a few disturbing trends. Not only did IGN give roughly 90 games in the last 12 months a score of 9.0 or higher, but in a sample of 50 games reviewed by IGN, Giantbomb, and Gamespot, the editors at IGN gave out almost twice as many scores of 9.0 or higher as their competitors.

IGN hasn't been a reliable source for reviews for a long, long time.

...and that's why you're supposed to read the review rather than just look at the score. Every person has their own idea of the 1-10 scale, which imo, is so arbitrary I'm surprised it's still in use.

That's why I'm a fan of Meta Critic. Gimme the good, the bad, a little excerpt and let me figure out which ones I want to read.

IGN also posts higher scores for most 360 titles than their PS3 version. Always been a little suspect to me

I guess that means the simpler minds of 360 gamers are easier to please.

Haven't seen that happen in a long time. Commonly all multiplatform titles are given the same rating unless there is a glaring issue only on one version.

metacritic is a piece of shit. 3 of 5 translates to a 60 on metacritic. Which is just wrong.

        That's because 3/5 IS 60. 3 divided by 5 is 0.6. As a percentage it's 60.

No, that means you can't possible have 10 30 50 70 or 90 from a 5 point scale. It's variable and they don't adjust accordingly they're lazy and if you read Adam's blog more than a few developers have been denied a bonus because of it.
