GameZone and Jim Sterling have hooked up to produce "Jim Sterling's Terrible Bucket List", a series of articles relating to titles that shouldn't be on anyone's bucket list for gaming.

Mass Effect always had promise. BioWare, as a studio, always has promise. Unfortunately, the bizarre gameplay choices never seem to work out well, and the fact they’ve been deliberately engineered that way makes it worse. If it was some sort of screw up, it would almost be forgivable, but BioWare made Mass Effect this way on purpose and thinks it’s good. In fact, loads of people think it’s good, and that’s an awful, awful thing to comprehend.

You may think the game is awesome, engaging, innovative, or any other buzz word, but you’re wrong. That’s not opinion, that’s just objective, scientific fact.
A word to the wise for this chump: Don't attack the fans, you idiot. The fact that he judged others opinion in such a way is just showing me that...this is an attention-grabbing article. And those articles are 100x worse than top lists.

Ok, so you don't like the game, that we call all live with, but before you go off onto why you dislike it...why must you mention such useless antics such as 'being hounded to the ends of the Earth' by fans of the game and how great it is. And above all else, he tries to twist the matter at hand by somehow speaking like an inside man of BioWare, claiming that, "BioWare made Mass Effect this way on purpose and thinks it's good." I'm sorry, but I haven't laughed at a statement this hard in a damn long time. The wording is terrible in that sentence for one, but avoiding that, why wouldn't BioWare make the game they want to, and believe it turned out good? Working hard on a project such as this would usually lead to content, proud employees. I'm just dumbfounded at this...deliberately engineered...seriously what kind of argument is that?

I understand that the first Mass Effect is a little on the overrated side and not for everyone. I also understand that there's a difference of opinions and people won't like it, such as Sterling here. But this is how you express your distaste for the game? That's flat-out hilarious and sad at the same time.

This guy just lost all credibility. Fine, he doesn't like it, but as Storm basically points out, he's a complete douchebag.

I tend to think of him as a professional troll.

Are you implying that he had credibility to start with?

It tries to be a cover-based, methodical shooter, so what does it do? It consistently pits the player against fast-moving melee attackers that bum rush the party without warning. In fact, most enemies move much faster than the main characters can, totally putting paid to the idea of methodical, tactical combat and attempting to be more of a twitch shooter with player characters that weren’t designed for it.
That's because you're supposed to use a combination of weapons, Biotics, and Tech powers to win fights. Try beating Insanity using just your guns. I dare you.

The variety of enemies are made to encourage you to use the right squadmates with the right powers at the right times. It's more than just pop out of cover and shoot.

One more thing: why is he bitching about Mass Effect 1? A lot of the crap he's complaining about got fixed, barring your squad's survival instincts.
