James Chalmers explores the conflict which plagues the majority of gamers, The Backlog of Games. Why do people buy games when they have a pile of games yet to be completed? And will they ever catch-up with the backlog?

I hate computer games, now before everyone jumps on my back let me explain. Taking a brief look on my desk I have Red Dead Redemption, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Just Cause 2 all in reaching distance, sitting there, longing to be completed. Next to that Demon’s Souls is still in the wrapping, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 lingers underneath it and even the God of War Collection is scattered across the top of this mess that I call a desk.

I'm confused. Why do you say you hate computer games? Did I miss something here or did you not explain that? xD

I have this problem as well, though my reasoning is simple: I have two hours to myself every weekday. That's no joke, a full-time job will take it's toll. I don't want to indulge into a game for one hour a night, it'd never be completed with the rate I'd go. The list of games I have to begin playing slowly grows: Red Dead Redemption, Alan Wake, Assassin's Creed II, and Dragon Age: Origins. I do complete most if not all games I start, though now I've been having difficulty, especially with the RPG genre. I've been playing FFXIII on an off for more than three months now. I've made it to Ch. 11 but before I could finish it, my TV dies out. So until I get a new one I'm stuck with the PS3...thankfully I have VGA cables for the 360, but with such limited time I can't bother constantly switching my multi-purpose PC monitor for a gaming monitor.

This is exactly what I do. I buy a game and it takes me eons to complete it, if I ever do. I've only got 3 games this year; Dragon Age: Origins, Final Fantasy XIII and Supreme Commander 2, and I haven't completed any of them.

This is why I only buy a new game when I've beaten the one before. Sure, that might lead to me missing a few games, but I can always get those during a dry period.

I do something sorta similiar, buy game, beat it, trade it against next game, beat it, and repeat.
