    Metroid certainly is one of the more influential franchise of all time, heck it's practically responsible for MetroidVania games (As the name would imply) and also served as one of the instigators of what would later become 'Sandbox' games.

    An influential shooter though? Metroid is no more a shooter than Zelda is a hack n' slash, the backbone and foundation of the experience is the exploration and adventure elements. It's not much of a 'shooter' itself, let alone actually influencing the genre. How many 'shooters' has Metroid really had any effect on?

      Speaking of which though, I never found myself interested much in Metroid, but ironically enough I actually bought a DS JUST for all the 6 CV games that came out for GBA/DS.
