Game costs concern us all, but many are focused more on the individual cost of games, than hat is really causing the huge issue. OXCGN takes a detailed look at why gaming is costing you and I so much these days, when compaired to even as early as 2005.

Come check it out, well worth the read, and pass your thoughts on as well. They will certainly welcome them, your thoughts that is . . .

Many gamers consider the retail costs of games and consoles being the main culprit of their fiscal stress, and one could argue that is the case, especially here in Australia where we seem to always pay more.

In fact, game retail prices have remained reasonably stable for over two decades now, and in most cases are even now lower than the initial influx of games two or more decades ago.

There is more to the problem than just the retail costs of games.

As Australian Game Informer editor Chris Stead pointed out in his study article to uncover the high costs of gaming here, retail games prices are reasonable all things considered, and there is no evidence to show price gouging or exploitation by either retailers or publishers, much to his dismay (Chris Stead in Issue#5 of Game Informer Aust, pgs 12 – 17).

Hmm, never thought it of like that. My PS2 collection is soo small compared to my PS3 collection. I guess its also because i have more money to spend this gen than last.

I'm the opposite now, whereas I had a huge collection throughout the 1st-gen xbox, and had most of all the main AAA titles as they came out, very rarely buying secondhand, this gen, I rarely buy new games on release day anymore due to the huge amount being available, and being on a limited budget does not allow the luxuries of doing so.

In some cases, the actual games cost LESS than before, but the sheer number just stops me from even thinking about 'keeping up' with the guys on thr friends list or being able to buy and review games.

Having to rely on publishers promo copies, which DO NOT come thck and fast as many would believe. In fact, publishers these day do NOT send out copies willy-nilly as many gamers think. Unless you're one of the several major media groups, it's almost impossible to get promo copies, just a disc in most cases, before release or even after release.

So even relying on that for my gaming pleasure is no longer a viable resource.

I still have over 80 1st-gen Xbox games, many of them new and sealed, but fewer 2nd-gen games, even though I've been playing them longer than the 1st-gen.

Makes you think from a different perspective, doesn't it.

Well even if games are getting more expensive and coming in greater numbers, as long as you know the key ones it's fine. For example, if you want a game that will keep you in the mainstream and last a long time you would choose one of the CoD games. Everyone knows about the game, everyone plays the game and it will take a long time to break the community. Each night on my friends list I have at least 5 - 10 guys all playing MW2 for at least a couple of hours.

Stick to the ones that are fun, action packed, and will most importantly last you a long time and the price of games currently isn't that big of an issue imo.

Actually I don't think it is so much the price of games or the amount of good games out there, I think a big factor in this gen being more costly than the others is gamers need for surround sound systems, HD TV's and now 3D TV's and of course the price of add-ons like Kinect and Move that is raping our wallets of all our hard earned quicker than we can fill them up.
