By now, it is stated that 4 out of 5 American families have a Nintendo Wii. Does that mean the system is so "casual" that is can't possibly be "hardcore"?

"After years of being maligned as a casual platform, will the Wii get some recognition as a hardcore system?"

I still don't see it as a hardcore platform, even though it seems to have a decent selection of games going now. An image like that just doesn't go away if you continue as normal, a company has to really go all out to get a new one, to defy the perceptions of those who watch. The Wii hasn't done that really...

To be honest, I don't really see at as a hardcore platform. There's some good games on the Wii but most of the games don't really interest me and I heard it has a lot of shovelware. I'm not really aligned to a specific company but I haven't been interested in what Nintendo is doing lately.

I feel like anyone who even bothers to differentiate between "hardcore" and "casual" has already turned in their gamer card long ago.

I own over 1000 games. 50 of which are Wii games. Try again.

Will the Wii ever be recognised as a "hardcore" gaming system?
Obviously not, then negative image it built itself in the first three years with a library of five games will never go away.

Is the Wii a 'hardcore' gaming system?
That's entirely subjective and highly relevent to one's taste in games. It has a much better library of Platformers than either of the other consoles, and a far more expansive selection of innoative 'niche' titles. It doesn't have a strong selection of mainstream games but whether that's a bad thing or not is once again taste-relative.

The Wii will never be a hardcore gaming console. I mean you look at the PS3 and 360 they have close to 1000 games each and about 900 or so are hardcore games. You look at the Wii and it has probably close to 2000 games now and only about 5 could be classed as hardcore games and even that is subjective considering everything on the Wii is cartoony..

The main thing with the Wii is, all the good games on it are the ones made by Nintendo, basically every other game is shovelware, hell alot of games made by Nintendo are shovelware.

Developers will see the Wii as a console they can dump all their crap on it that families and OAP's can pick up. I will never see the Wii as a hardcore gaming console, I will always see it as "That gimmick"

I'll wait and see what Nintendo do with their next console, if they ditch the motion controls and go back to controllers, they may be in with a chance.

I doubt it happening anytime soon, Wii was originally marketed as being a "casual, family-friendly" console from the beginning, allowing players ages 5 - 80 to be able to play with little to no effort.

Occasional exceptions such as The Conduit and Red Steel 1/2 have come along, but they're only one in a few.
