Console exclusive games are a necessary evil for some publishers, and the bane on the existence of many. Too many times we've felt that gut wrenching feeling when the game we wanted wasn't being released for a platform we owned. Good news is that day may come to an end one day.

You won't see Heavy Rain on the Xbox360 or Fable III on the Wii, and the reason is fairly transparent; the respective console producers would like to hold all the aces and lead you to believe that they have enough to warrant your purchase of their system. First party titles, like the Legend of Zelda series, are the cards played closest to the chest; few would expect Halo or Mario games to release on any other console than their mother company's. It's the second and third party developers that produce more and exciting new game franchises that cause much unrest in the barracks of the console wars.

I am honestly never really bothered when an exclusive game I want to play is on a console I don't own unless it's a sequel to a series I have played the previous games.

I would love to play the Gears games, The Crackdowns, Alan Wake, the L4D's. But I don't own a 360 and my PC is very low-spec but honestly I'm not really bothered that I can't play them.

I'm not bothered one bit by exclusives either. In fact, I like them. Even if I can't play one of them, I enjoy seeing games aim for superior performance built for one machine in particular, to use all it can for it.

I've only ever bought a console solely to get one console-exclusive once game before. :3

I love exclusives, I wish there were more to be honest. But, I guess I can say that because I own all the current consoles except the DS...

I like exclusives and I only own the PS and Wii.

I actually like to know that I own a console that has a few games that others don't.

Console exclusives will never come to an end and asking why they exist is like asking why the sky is blue. Don't people notice the odd logo on the covers of most of them that is identical to the console manufacture

This generation has really seen Sony's strategy of heavily investing in first-party software pay off. Virtually all of Sony's major franchises (Uncharted, LBP, God Of War) will only ever appear on PS3.

Microsoft tried a different tact, by throwing lots of cash and developers to get them to make console exclusive games. While that initially worked, by the time the PS3 was getting more affordable, third-party developers began to realise that they'd make more money developing for both systems than they ever would through some Microsoft cash injection.

Love them or hate them, you've got to hand it to Sony, because they played their exclusive titles hand exactly right. Microsoft have been relying on third-party developers, and as we've seen over recent months with Valve and Bioware, that is a risky game to play.

I just personally prefer Sony's mantra of sticking by their partners without approaching 3rd party devs. Japanese code of loyalty in there somewhere I bet.

I've never really felt a need for any exclusive games not on the PS3. I mean sometimes I get a little wishful, but that's never a long term thing, I only buy a few games anyway.

It's all a war of the business heads, thus no end in sight can be seen for these sometimes dreadful yet special exclusives. They basically define the native console they represent, put simply.

Nintendo would be nothing without Mario, just as CoD is to Sony. It's science.

And why is Sony dependant on Call of Duty again? <=/

Lol Indeed! Would have been better to say GOW. But then, I honestly cant' stand GOW so I couldn't agree with it. There's many better mascots for Sony

Tbh it's not fair to say Nintendo would be nothing without Mario. Zelda & Pikachu would do just as well.

PS3 welllll: Aside Kratos, Old Snake, Sackboy, Cole McGrath, Helghan, A car...(GT5), Nathan Drake (!) and etc I think they're covered.

Although with Xbox 360 you have either a Spartan or a COG. That kinda annoys me, the amount of good Xbox exclusives they have and the only real characters you stick to it is a hulking armoured warrior or a slightly less armoured more hulking soldier...see what I'm getting at?
