The thing'll still sell like hotcakes. Didn't stop the Wii when it came out in japan at the exact same price.

I think the high price is far more concerning than the release in early 2011. The vast majority of systems for the first 6 months of the console are the die hard fans that would buy the system no matter what, drastically reducing the availability of the console for general consumers waiting for Christmas. This gives the a good 8 months worth of sales to the early adopters while Nintendo can build up hardware, software, and critical buzz to come into the Christmas 2011 season really strong, avoiding the shortages suffered with Wii and DS lite. I think fans and analysts also don't have the full picture. We have no idea where Nintendo or the 3rd parties are with production or software development, and while I would love to have the device sooner rather than later, I can easily wait a few months for superior products.

I think a likely launch price of $250 is a major misstep on Nintendo's part though. Far too much money for a portable system, especially in this economy. I understand that the system has a lot under its hood, but sacrificing cost efficiency for advanced tech is foolish in my opinion. I also understand that the dollar is much weaker than it was during other system launches, making it harder to justify a smaller price point, but numbers truly speak, especially for handhelds.

At the end of the day, I'm buying it either way, so no big deal personally.

Nintendo stock was on the rise before the announcement, meaning it fell back to normal levels after the excitement died down.

    Funfact 2

Stocks are always rising and falling, since day traders are morons.

Ah, context, how I miss thee on the Interwebz.

The price tag, sure it's high as hell. However, I'm more worried of what the glitchs and stuff the 3DS will have. If I'm paying $300 for this, it better damn well run perfect...

It'll still sell for sure. It's Nintendo. The release date is good. They might still be doing testing.
