Consumers and investors are both up in arms about Nintendo's announcement that the 3DS would not be released until spring 2011 and would carry a $300 price tag in Japan. Defcon: Awesome takes a look at the EEDAR's attempt to calm the hysteria and tries to determine just how badly Nintendo has messed things up.

I think a likely launch price of $250 is a major misstep on Nintendo's part though. Far too much money for a portable system, especially in this economy. I understand that the system has a lot under its hood, but sacrificing cost efficiency for advanced tech is foolish in my opinion. I also understand that the dollar is much weaker than it was during other system launches, making it harder to justify a smaller price point, but numbers truly speak, especially for handhelds.
At the end of the day, I'm buying it either way, so no big deal personally.
After Nintendo announced the release date and price
their stocks fell.
edit: oh, this was already pointed out in the article.
Nintendo stock was on the rise before the announcement, meaning it fell back to normal levels after the excitement died down.
Funfact 2
Stocks are always rising and falling, since day traders are morons.
Ah, context, how I miss thee on the Interwebz.
"The 3DS costs how much? No thanks."
Yeah, right.
