Gaming is becoming more immersive by the minute it seems, and with the way it's upwardly trending, one can only imagine how much more interactive and customizable gaming will become to cater to everyone's needs individually. While this is a great thing in many ways, it's become evident that the expectation for gameplay and character interaction has risen dramatically in games that offer little to no customization in the first place.

That's an extremely negative way to look at it. The other way being that as games one up eachother in an attempt to be more immersive it ups quality all around.

I didn't mean to sound negative. Sorry if it came off the wrong way.

Admittedly I only skimmed through the article, time being what it is and all, but I don't understand how customization really plays a part in immersion, if you'd like to explain (unless if by customization you only mean stuff like personality choice, in which case fair enough).

Hideo, I guess it depends on the player, but character customization makes a game more immersive for me. Especially in terms of character personality, but even in looks as well.

If I make the character look like myself, then I feel more a part of the game, but sometimes I like to create my own characters as well, and it feels more like my creation than someone else's. That helps me relate to the story and character even more, which really draws me in. Of course, choosing your character's personality eveb more so adds to the immersion element.

That's my opinion on everything, anyway.

I don't really understand that though tbh. The most immersive games I've played (Silent Hill 2, Sands of Time, HL2) have had solid PCs. In the same way with things like Fallout, I haven't found it more immersive just because my character looks how I want. Immersion comes from atmosphere and the strength of surrounding characters and plot and the flow of gameplay.

      Eh YMMV I guess.

You definitely make some valid points. I guess immersion can be somewhat relative.
