While stereotypical characters are still fun and fitting for certain video games, it's nice to recognize characters that go against these stereotypes and make a unique name for themselves.

Props for having Faith on there. Frankly, that seemed like a pretty out-of-the-ordinary game itself.

Would have liked some more explanation on the stereotypes and just how the characters revoked them. And while I like Infamous and Cole, he's definitely not the first bald protagonist.

    Thanks for the input, guys.

@Bale. Yes you're right, but he's still a rare breed of them. I mentioned on the first paragraph that these characters weren't necessarily the first of their kind, but still stand out.

Actually Rufus doesn't break any stereotype; due mostly to Sammo Hung and others like him, and more recently the likes of Rufus himself and Bob of Tekken the fat martial artist is a stereotype which he doesn't break at all. Samus... well, maybe up until the fact she's a woman became the thing that defined her. Drake doesn't break any stereotypes, he's just the lovechild of Lara Croft and Indiana Jones with nothing of his own. Sheva... well she was black. Sure, it's good to see some diversity but she didn't break any stereotypes; actually due to the fact she was the side-character who wasn't really necessary and was tacked on to appease people who called the game racist, I'd say she furthers stereotypes. Cole did break stereotypes in the sense his personality was realistic. He was still Human, if you're willing to ignore the stupid moral choice system. The fact he's bald means sweet *bleep* all though.

    Swing and a miss.

When I mentioned Rufus, I never said he broke the overweight stereotype, but more so the fact that characters are always fit and lean. Completely different.

But he can't break a stereotype if he is a stereotype. He's not breaking the 'characters are usually fit' stereotype he's the token fat guy which, if anything, perpetuates it.

He can break one stereotype without breaking them all. That's just silly to expect a list of people with no stereotypes attached to them whatsoever. I dare say, there is no such thing, let alone a list of ten.

Rufus may not break the stereotype of overweight people, but he certainly doesn't look like your typical video game character. That is worth noting.

No, you don't understand. He was only put in the game because he's fat and that only happened because, lo and behold, everyone else (aside from Honda) is fit and buff. He makes the stereotype worse because his only reason for existing, aside from Capcoms stupid want for more Western styles in their games, is to debunk a stereotype which (as you've so aptly pointed out) he only serves to throw a massive spotlight on.

In any case, the list in general was shit so why you're trying to save this one point I don't know.

Cole is breaking what stereotype exactly?

      He's bald.

      Yup.

      Ground-breaking journalism here.

          haha good advice, Drogo.

Kinda feel bad for him. People who hate on others so much are merely expressing the fact that they are battling insecurities. Hope he gets better!

Wow, it's a lot worse than I though. Like I said before, I hope you can gain some confidence back, then.

I have experience within the gaming industry, and that's why I have the following I do. Making an opinionated article doesn't change that, silly boy.

I know you're just trying to be nice, which is wonderful of you, but it's pretty obvious that Hideo insulted the article, Melonie kindly accepted his (insulting) criticism, and he just kept it going to be cruel.

He's a sad person to have to come on here just to insult people for whatever reason. I'm sorry that people have to put up with him and others like him.

There's no hate here, just reason and pity.

He'll probably respond to this and insult me in some way, which is fine. I don't really care. I think he needs to get the last word in order to feel secure or something like that.
