Are any fans of this series concerned for the future of Call of Duty? Game Podunker Gregoric399 writes about his concerns on where this series will be headed next with its new adoptive parents, Sledgehammer Games.

Today is arguably the biggest day of the 2010 gaming calendar so far – I am, of course, talking about the release day for Call of Duty: Black Ops. It is an achievement for Treyarch that their game has not only surpassed the release of Playstation Move and Kinect in terms of hype but has also beaten the number of pre-orders which Modern Warfare 2 had despite them being thought of as second fiddle to the franchise founders: Infinity Ward.

It's rather obvious why the pre-orders exceeded MW2...it's because of MW2 hype. Think back to say, FFVII. That game blew up in many ways, and what became the fastest selling FF? FFVIII. So yeah, it's the hype. Coming off a year from MW2, not to mention the game still fresh in players heads because they've played it for so long.

I'm not a fan of Treyarch. Their zombie mod bits are cool, but eh, I preferred IW titles. That's all dead and gone after what's transpired this year.

That's how I felt up until now. I've got to say, so far I'm thoroughly impressed with Treyarch's work on Black Ops. The campaign's definitely the best in a Call of Duty game, at least as far in as I am.

I am concerned that this may be the last good Call of Duty as with Infinity Ward seemingly dead and Sledgehammer unproven I'm not hopeful. I also don't know what Treyarch will do next as they have always banked on Infinity Ward being there first with an improved engine now Treyarch will be alone in that and it may not bode well for future games.

Loved how when MW2 you walked into a game shop and it was no were on shelves.

I walked into my local Gamestation AND Game today only to be asked 5 times if I wanted to buy Black Ops as half the people who pre-ordered didn't want it and the shelves were jam packed with it.

Was told it's the same in Liverpool stores too, looks like the game should be called COD: Black Flops.

As a disclaimer, I live in the U.S., but Modern Warfare 2 was pretty much everywhere I went. They kept it stocked enough that I never heard of it selling out, and Black Ops looks to be the same case.

To be honest, I don't see how anybody can call it disappointing in the least, either. Yes, Treyarch pretty much built off MW2's new engine and tricks, which worries me about the future of the games, but they added far more original content than I would have expected and have a damn good game to show for it.

It's laughable that you judge the sales of the game from a few selected area's.Different places sell different amounts of stuff.

Years back one of my friends came down from another city and he asked the woman how well 360's sold. She said as soon as they came in they were sold.Yet where he lived, they could barely sell any.

Wait till the sales numbers are released and I bet it will be far from a flop. All I hear and see around here is COD BO.

I will note that I have 0 interest in the COD series and honestly I'm rather sick of BO already and it's only been out for two days. But I can't deny that the game is MASSIVE.

Considering how dissapointing MW2 was, personally I'm interested to see whether or not Black Ops can pick up the pieces. Never liked WaW either though, so I'm not holding out much hope. But ya never know, Treyarch might pull through.
