Many video games such as Counter-Strike and Halo 2 have included the ability for players to dual wield weapons. Being able to use akimbo style shotguns in Call of Duty: Black Ops, however, is stupid and unrealistic.

Where have you been? Modern Warfare 2 allowed you to dual wield pretty much all the shotguns. At least in this they only let you dual wield one and it's the one with stocks that actually make dual wielding seem somewhat feasible.

Realism should never get in the way of a fun game. And as for the whole argument of 'a real US soldier would never run around with dual shotguns' just how many soldiers of any kind would do the things players do in multiplayer? How many real life soldiers would run around like a maniac knifing everyone? How many real life soldiers would kill each other for a flag? How many real life soldiers would run up point blank and fire a rocket at the ground, killing themselves in the process?

If anyone even attempts to justify the multiplayer of Call of Duty as 'realistic' then you have a very skewed view on how the world works.

Another reason for me to not get BO any time soon. Dual wielding doesn't have any effect on accuracy or stability? lmao.

It technically does but you'll be firing that many bullets some of them are destined to get a headshot. (Especially with BO's piss poor hit detection.)

Well as someone in the comments to the article pointed out, in MW2 it was even possible to "snipe" with dual guns you could fire so far with them so it really doesn't effect accuracy, that's DUMB.

These things are especially ridiculous in Hardcore game modes.

You can seriously just run in a room, spin in a circle while shooting these, and everything everywhere will die.

They're fun, though, when you're not on the receiving end of their bullets.

Unrealistic? So it's realistic to crouch in a corner and wait for bullet wounds to magically disappear? Get out of here with that nonsense, who cares if you can dual wield shotguns.

Yeah but there is unrealistic for gameplay purposes and then unrealistic for ridiculousness purposes. Counter-Strike wasn't as realistic as it could have been either but at least Valve had the common sense to make dual pistols incredibly inaccurate.

Well then it's your own fault for expecting a CoD game to be balanced.

lol well CoD4 was pretty balanced with the exception of the M16 which was wildly overpowered.

So it wasn't pretty balanced then, was it? xD

I dunno, I think its pretty ridiculous to get shot and for bullet wounds to magically disappear. It's just a game, games are by default, unrealistic and criticizing it for it is pointless. I can understand inconsistencies within the game logic, but I dont see anything wrong with holding two shot guns, I mean, you can do that in GTA: San Andreas.

Akimbo Desert Eagle is fine. But seriously...Akimbo shotgun? What's next?
