Examiner: Could gaming on Xbox LIVE ever be free if Silver members had an more advertisements to off-set lost subscription revenue? Would this motivate more gamers to get Xbox 360's? How would it affect current Gold memberships? To find out, I posted a poll on several gaming forums last month and added the answers from all of them together. The results are not what you'd expect.

I'm surprised that roughly half the users would still keep their Gold membership. I'm usually one to say that the price doesn't bother me much, but that's only because there is a lot of incentive. If I could play online multiplayer for free, I would most likely drop the subscription. The other benefits of Gold are too small. I was watching ESPN3 and Netflix on the TV I use for my 360 long before either of those features surfaced for the 360, and pretty much every other feature associated with Gold I use very seldom. Not to say they aren't nice additions, just that they wouldn't be worth the price tag by themselves. I play the 360 for the exclusives and the ease of use of the online, the price tag I pay for Gold is just a sacrifice I don't mind paying for gaining those things, but I would still rather be without it.
