Are more companies focused more on the multiplayer's experiences while ignoring to bring a great single player game? Read on to find what Game Podunk blogger, Gregoric has to say.

This is something that someone should tell to EA Games President Frank Gibeau who says that single-player only games should be abandoned in favour of ‘connectivity’ and other things that nobody REALLY needs in order to have a good gaming experience. What he and the rest of the EA Studio heads need to realise is that if you make a good single player game that’s of high quality then it will sell. Look at the first Uncharted, that sold perfectly well and there was no multiplayer or connectivity to speak of what-so-ever. I know Uncharted 2 had multiplayer but Naughty Dog know how to make a good game with the single player of Uncharted 2 being even better than the first. Not only that but Uncharted’s game mechanics of running, climbing and shooting supported multiplayer, however, as an example off the top of my head, Dead Space 2’s DO NOT.

In a joking way I say go for it, that way I can go from playing very few EA games to playing none at all.Any developer that scraps SP altogether is a devloper almost guaranteed to never get a single cent from me.

He isn't really saying that they will abandon single player experiences, he is merely saying that online gaming adds to the longevity of a single purchase.

I mean we have all seen the average game get shorter thanks in part to cohesive storytelling that tries not to stretch beyond its welcome, but once you have played the story you either play it again or play something else.

I think I would be right in saying that if a good single player game had good online people would play online as well, thus getting more game for their money. I personally think this is a good move as single player experiences aren't going anywhere, but at times I do play games with universes so well crafted I would like to play more of that even if it is in a none story based competitive way online.

I agree. I don't understand why people would be against expanding the replay values of a game...this ain't the Sega Genesis era where you can replay the same game a dozen times because it's so generically fun.

If a game like Mirror's Edge had a good co-op mode where you could just blast through certain challengings (sort of like the Metal Gear virtual op games) then it wouldn't be too bad.
