The Spike Video Game Awards are finally over and once again are a huge disappointment. Neil Patrick Harris wasn't funny and the game awards seemed more like an afterthought than the entire reason for the show's existence.

Personally I don't really give much of a damn about the actual awards themselves. Never have. I just look forward to all the trailers and news which come out of it all.

Same here. The dialogue is a joke as is the whole show. Everytime a celebrity comes on the show I always wonder "gee, I wonder how much they DONT wanna be there"

with you on that one. The recipients of the awards are never based on actual merits; just hype and media. Kinda like when GTAIV got GOTY over MGS4 that one year.

Luckily GT.com always posts the reveal trailers quickly, so I don't actually have to watch the VGAs at all

Though the last 2 GOTY awards have actually been for deserving games that lived up to the hype.

Last year was about the only year I've ever agreed with their GOTY (Uncharted 2). But they seem to heavily favor highly hyped/publicized games, even if they aren't that good. Kinda like when Halo 3 was snatching rewards best deserved elsewhere.

Big trailers, that's why I watch. You really care about the awards? Look at a summary after the show.

Otherwise, I don't really see it being all that different from the grammy's or whatever, there's always performances, and jokes. Some of which are good, others that are horrible.

Honestly, this dude seems like he just wants them to like, announce the winners consecutively and then end it. People go to this as an event, not an awards show. They expect live performances, and it's a great place for debut trailers.

Honestly, why must critics bitch about everything? How about write a summary of all the announcements, like Mass Effect 3, or Elder Scrolls V, and not just throw it in as an aside in your rant about the show.

Ironically, this article about the gaming awards show has every flaw that it found with the show itself. Could have talked about what won, or what was announced, but no. Just throw those in in the middle of an unrelated sentence about, what else, afterthoughts.

The only game that deserved the award it got was Mass Effect 2 for best Xbox 360 game as it seriously was the best Xbox 360 game by far. It should have won Game of the Year, but that was a case of hype over merit as Mass Effect 2 from a technical standpoint, gameplay and storytelling is a game that Red Dead Redemption wishes it was.

I like Mass Effect 2 as much as the next guy but RDR rightfully won GOTY!
